The Old Course at the St Andrews is responsible for many champions and successful golfers. All of the last 4 golfers were some of the longer hitters in the world of golf. Nobody was better than John Daly, when he propelled the ball in 1995. In 2000, Tiger Woods managed 317 yards (average). Louis Oosthuizen was also impressive with his win in 2010 (7 shot win). The last 5 winners of the Open at St Andrews were: Louis Oosthuizen (2010), Tiger Woods (2000 and 2005), John Daly (1995) and Nick Faldo (1990).
You noticed that Jordan Spieth isn’t one of the winners. This is because this young golfer from Texas doesn’t belong in the big hitter’s category. All golfers who won this event were best known for their long hits. According to Chamblee, if you see all golfers who won the St Andrews Opens in last two decades, you will see that Jordan Spieth will have possible problems with the game at this course.
However, there are certain changes to the course. As usual, all traditionalists were against these changes. They said that they are like drawing something on the Mona Lisa. A new hazard on the 9th hole and bunkering at the 2nd and 3rd have been added.
You may know that Tiger Woods is ranked at 241st place at this moment. Despite having an impressive finish at the Greenbrier (bogey-free finish), where he finished 32nd, he won’t have chances this week. At least Chamblee believes in this. It looks like this golfer who won the Open 3 times, doesn’t have luck anymore. But, maybe he will surprise us all.
